If you had to decide between ending one person's life to save a population of people what would you do?

For example, if a terrorist had a bomb set to explode and kill a large number of people and the only way to stop it was to kill the terrorist....or on the flip side to sacrifice someone dear to you in order to save a group of people which included children.
