I want to try playing a visual novel, so I was wondering if it was good, since I've heard a lot about it and seen bits of early gameplay (one of them being someone going in blind, thinking it was just a normal dating sim, making all kinds of joke... then the heart attack happened)

Played the Luminous arc games they made for regular ds? they were good visually and story was great :)

one you might like is the little busters VN

Then it's probably a good place to start if it is one of your first visual novels, since it is less choice intensive.
