Yeh that's true, :P is annoying as well but at times it's alright to lighten the mood.

when you know when to use it, sure. but not in situations where that type of smile doesn't fit at all... yet, people use it that way. i never understood that, why even... well. to what i can tell... it's best to use no smiles at all, or casual ones, like " : ) / :) " or " :D "
