My first Horror anime was Elfen Lied :)

But you should watch Mirai Nikki before you watch any horror. It's like regular anime with romance and comedy and stuff. It just kinds of strays barely close to the edge sometimes.

After that... Death Note really doesn't have much gore, but it has that tension and edginess. It should get you used to that, as well.

Then, just move on to something with slightly more blood and gore... Watch Shingeki no Kyojin if you haven't already. But episode 1 focuses on the shock factor... so... Yeah... it might be a bit iffy.
If you can take that, just get used to blood and gore, and then you'll be good to go! RAWWR!
Elfen Lied is probably on the extreme side--the gory pic that I've posted several times comes from that.

But, something in between might be better.

Mirai Nikki --> Death Note --> ??? --> Shingeki no kyojin --> ??? --> Elfen Lied (finish line)
