I couldn't follow most of it either, but here's my impression of how he screwed up:

He was supposed to arrange for the key images/frames (??) of the important third episode to be drawn on time* by someone, who refused to do it (probably because they didn't think they had enough time). He then tried to get other people to do it, and they refused as well. He then kept this to himself, so there was even less time to get it done. The person they eventually got to do it was already scheduled to do similar work on the fourth episode, so everything on that fourth episode got pushed back as well.

* this work is the basis for the next stage, which I think is where they actually animate the images. The drawing is where they turn simple cartoon like sketches into fully drawn & colored images.

But that's just what I picked up from watching, it could all be wrong. The info dumps had me half nodding off at times.

That's sort of along the lines of what I thought except I thought Taro was the one who was supposed to draw them but now I remember he's got the same job as Miss obsessed with donuts.

Yeah, I didn't realize at first that they were doing essentially the same job, probably leap frogging each other with different episodes, and/or working with different artists.

In that scene where he (Taro) was first reminded about the task he screwed up on, he was just sort of hanging around, jittering around in the corner, and claimed everything was fine. At the time, I thought he was nerving himself up to ask donut girl (DG) out, but maybe he was just nervous about his job screw-up. Or he screwed up because he was distracted by DG, can't tell.

I kept expecting DG to try and bring in her high school friend to do the last minute drawing job, but I guess her bosses would have rejected her as not experienced enough. Maybe in a future episode.

that donut-obsessed girl drives the car like a pro, for a moment I thought it was Initial D.
like this anime but it won't be on my top list anime for this season. if my top list were the top 5 anime, then it would be the 6th.

Well, I'm going to watch this anime through, that Initial D parody sealed it for me.

Well as someone who also took Animation in High School, I can relate to the stresses, no wonder I didn't pursue it.

Holy crap... I was on edge throughout the whole episode...
I feel that it really shows the chaos that happens in an animation studio...
Today I learned that they constantly work on different episodes at once. I should have probably known that, and not have thought that it was one episode per week...

I really liked seeing how voice actors do their job. I always kinda wondered about that. And even sound effects. They really go into tiniest details... it's so interesting :D

That talk about favorite characters and their favorite foods was pretty funny as well xD

Hmmm. Looks like animation is a really hard industry. I've always wondered what processes go into making an anime, but as far as I can tell, its rather similar to High School animation.

I like how people claim to have a better understanding of the stresses that animation teams go through by watching this episode, claiming that they understand now why there are recap episodes, but what really makes me chuckle is how people still insult or disrespect Togashi whenever HunterxHunter goes on hiatus due to his health.

The anime is interesting though, it's always nice to get a perspective of the industry, especially one that you're a fan of.
