In all honestly, I fell that if Garp was born in the same era as Ace and Luffy, he would have become a pirate as well. He just does not act like the typical marine of this age. This is likely the reason that Him, Sengoku, and Kuzan all left the Marines, although Garp and Sengoku agreed to stick around to help train new recruits, they are no longer on active duty.

Not really. He dumped them on a bandit and turned up once every 6 or so months to see how they were doing. Then punch them around.

And who knows what Dragon went through.

His son probably doing all what he does because he knows about the "Will of D" and based on that he wants to change the world. Luffy and Ace made their own decision for life, it could be painful but he tries to deal with it, for example he almost freaked out when Ace died so its really painful for him, but everyone going by his own beliefs. At least, he happy that Luffy survived that war.

I don't feel for him because he knew from the get go that his family had their own path to walk
And you can't change the will of D, I do however think he did not do enough to save ace.
I understand he had to do his duty as a marine officer of the law to uphold justice and I don't
Blame him for the choice he made but from a personal standpoint family to me comes before
Anything in the world. He could have saved ace but did not and almost lost his own grandson
He very well knew that even though ace was a pirate he was a a good human being at heart,
and the main reason the world government was to eliminate the blood of Roger and a candidate
For pirate king. He chose duty over family which I respect but don't approve of.

^ this. . .the fact that Garp chose to walk the path of a Marine instead of taking another look at the organization that he was a part of means he brought what happens upon himself. . .don't get me wrong. . .I still kind of pity the guy but. . .it's the choice that he made. . .now he has to live with it. . .

The time that I really felt sorry for him is when he cannot do anything about Luffy and Ace. Ace is about to die, yet the only thing he could do is to be the audience of his grandson's death..Truly depressing
