@Myki correction Saito wasn't married while he was still with the Shinsengumi. He first got married after he changed his name after his escape from capture as a prisoner of war that occurred during the last battle he led as stand-in commander of the Shinsengumi when Hijikata was recovering from his injuries.

As far as the whole "gay" thing goes. If you mean it sucks, then you're using the wrong word. If you say that ancient Japan didn't have anything gay about it, you aren't paying much attention. Homoeroticism was every bit as much a part of samurai society as it was in ancient Greece.

At first i liked this series, but then people just start dying , i don't like when one of the main character or a character i like dies. It reminds me on my first anime and that's Code Geass , i cried at the end.But this anime is not gay , i don't know why people thinks so.

Guess I should correct myself, Half of those guys were married. Okita, who was diagnosed with TB years before he died at age 24, was single, but his "partner" Saito was married twice and had , at least, 3 sons.

With Chizuru as the primary protagonist, it can hardly be a ccused of being gay. However, the whole samurai system, which forced the wives and children to live separately, like hostages, and the men to live together, could lead to miss-interpretations. Even though the Shinsengumi was part of the end of that era, it could still seem that way. Most of those guys had wives and children in real life.

I'm so happy. I thought I'd never get to see anything new from the Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan series. Why would anyone think they're gay? They were amazing warriors who fought for the shogunate during the conflict which ended with the establishment of the Meiji era.

These are actually OVA's to the main Hakuouki series, so to those of you calling them gay... This is based off of Japanese history, and it is anything but gay. :/
